The Long Man of Wilmington |
|
The Long Man of Wilmington towers above the village of Wilmington, nestling on the steep slopes of Windover Hill. This faceless outline of a man carved into the chalk, standing 235ft high with two staves in his hands slightly longer than himself, remains a mystery.
The Sussex Archealogical Society (formerly the Sussex Archealogical Trust) have been responsible for 'The Long Man' since 1925, when it was given to them by the Duke of Devonshire.
